Road trips give motorists the opportunity to take in a wide range of interesting attractions and destinations from the comfort of their own car. And doing it from a campervan makes it even more convenient as you don’t have to pay for any accommodation along the way.
If you’re currently looking for where to go on your next holiday, a member in the Vanlife – UK group on Facebook shared what he claimed was the most popular routes to travel through Europe. Gordon Cross wrote: “Apparently this is the most popular routes traveled round Europe, making it the ultimate. Maybe one day.”
He attached a photo of Europe and the route of the most popular travel routes through the continent. There’s no ‘official’ starting point on the route, as it’s flexible so you can start from whatever point you’d like.
If starting in London, the route goes down to Cornwall before going up through the Midlands, before taking a ferry over to Ireland to visiting the west coast before driving back to Dublin and through Northern Ireland to take a ferry over to Scotland.
After going up to the highlands, the route then goes south through Edinburgh before going to Harwich to take the ferry over to the Netherlands. After a stop in Berlin, Germany, the route goes North by taking the ferry to Denmark and driving over the bridge to Sweden and through to Bergen in Norway.
It then goes on further north, driving through Sweden and into Finland and then driving to Helsinki by the southern coast and through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to Krakow in Poland.
After a quick stop in the Czech Republic, the route then continues through Austria, Hungary and through to Romania before travelling through Bulgaria to Istanbul in Turkey.
It then goes back into Bulgaria down to Athens in southern Greece before following the Greek coast back north to the borders of Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina before taking a ferry to southern Italy and Sicily before going back north through Rome and Florence and to northern Croatia.
It then goes back into central Europe by entering southern Germany after driving through Austria, and making stops in Switzerland before going back through Italy to get to Monaco and Marseille.
It then follows the French coast to Spain, where it drives along the coast through Barcelona and down to Malaga before entering Portugal. You then drive back across Spain to the French boarder and going straight north into Paris. The last stop is Belgium before taking the ferry back to London.
Hundreds of people took to the comment section to share their thoughts on the route, with many sharing criticisms. “One day is stretching it a bit, I’d give it a week or 8 days mate,” one person joked
A second person said: “Recommend that you follow the coastline up Norway and then pass over to Sweden in the north. More scenery,” while a third user argued: “I’d recommend more along the north coast of Spain.”
“No Slovenia on the map ? How dare they,” another person wrote.
